Differences in Temperature and Gibberellins Responses during Growth and Development of Tuberose in Greenhouse
Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) is cultivated all over the world, and it is mainly grown for a cutting flower in China. The forcing culture was carried out under greenhouse conditions to advance blooming to spring and to evaluate the vegetative and reproductive characteristics of tuberose. Effects of three concentrations of GA3 (0, 40, and 80mg·L-1) and three temperature treatments (ck, 4℃, and 30℃) on corms before planting were determined. The results showed that treating corm at 4 or 30℃ significantly reduced number of days to flower and enhanced corm sprouting in all planting dates. High temperature treatment had more corm sprouting percentage than cold treatment except the Dec lanting. Flowering percentage at 4℃ enhanced in the Dec planting compared with CK. Low temperature treatment significantly reduced length of spikes in the Oct planting. The number of florets per spike significantly decreased at the low or high temperature treatments in both Oct and Dec plantings. There was no difference in floret number under different temperatures except the Oct planting. GA3 had no significant effects on flowering duration when planted at the same dates. GA3 had less effect on growth and flowering of Double compared with the influence of temperature. The quality of cutting flowers produced in the greenhouse decreased compared with local field produced flowers. The orcing cultivation of tuberose may be performed with Double and by temperature treatment on corms at 4℃ for 30 days or 30℃ for lSdays in local greenhouse and without man-forced winter dormancy of corm after harvest.
