An Integrated Lens Antenna Design with Irregular Lens Profile

To improve a moderate aperture efficiency of the antenna in millimeter-wave band, the feasibility of designing compact arbitrarily-shaped integrated lens antenna has been demonstrated in this paper. The influence of internal reflections and possible indirect paths is neglected, and the feed current modified by the irregular lens profile and the dielectric contrast at the lens interface are ignored. This design method consists of a local iterative optimization of trial lens shape, which is analyzed by a modified nonorthognal alternatingdirection-implicit (NADI) finite-difference timedomain (FDTD) method, together with uniaxial perfectly matched layer boundary conditions. Simulation results show that the designed antenna is with higher radiation and aperture efficiencies.
