NONLINEAR FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF HIGH-STRENGTH BOLT SPLICES

Standard preload was loaded on the high-strength bolts using iterative balanced approach, while the influence of high-strength bolts preload, friction between the cover board and bolt cap, friction between the cover board and the flange or web, nonlinear contact pressure between bolt shank and the wall of holes in the panel were all taken consideration of. A 3 - D nonlinear finite element analysis model of high-strength bolt splice was built based on non-linear finite element software MSC Marc, taking consideration of contact friction, frictional slip, and contact pressure. High-strength bolt splice of single panels was first simulated, and the simulating results were compared with the test results to verify the reliability of the model. In this simulation, it was confirmed that the finite element model can well simulate the bolt slip load and the ultimate load of the splice. On this basis, a high-strength bolt beam splice joint was simulated, and the simulation results exhibited a loaddisplacement curve which was in good agreement with the skeleton curve of the test. The model presented in this paper can well simulate the whole process of shear performance of high-strength bolts in splice joints, and it can be used for the analysis and calculation of high-strength bolt splice joint.
