NONLINEAR TIME-HISTORY ANALYSIS OF A COMPLEX HIGH-RISE BUILDING WITH DIAGONAL GIRD STRUCTURE

Nonlinear time-history analysis of a complex out-ofcodes high-rise building (338 meter tall, 77-story) with steel frame (steel truss diagonal grid) - core tube under rare earthquake was conducted to study the seismic performance of the structure. Six sets of ground motions were selected as representative of potential local seismic excitation and scaled to meet the provisions of China Seismic Design Code. A detailed and complex finite element model of the structure was created using ABAQUS program, and the user-defined subroutine VUMAT was adopted to program the uniaxial hysteresis model of concrete for fibre beam element. Non-linear time-history analysis results showed that this type of super tall structure provided an acceptable level of seismic performance under severe seismic events, and the structural behaviour of steel truss diagonal grids was ideal. The maximum story drifts and base shear response were within the code limits under all six sets of ground motions. Steel truss diagonal grid, outrigger and belt-truss framing member demands were less than their ultimate capacities. Shear walls exhibit considerable damage in certain part of the core tube, which should be strengthened and more attention should be paid to in the procedure of construction documents design. The nonlinear time-history analyses confirmed acceptable global and local performances of the analysed structure on the whole.
