BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE AND READING COMPREHENSION
Reading is one of the core courses in English teaching.The reading ability directly influences the acceptance of students language knowledge, the training of basic skills as well as the level of cultivating English ability.In order to improve the reading comprehension level, one should pay great attention to the English teaching.English teaching, especially reading teaching, involves more than new word explanation and grammatical teaching.In fact, language is a kind of carrier of history, politics, economy, culture and everyday communication, which must be displayed in the reading materials.This paper is directed against the situation that students can not effectively improve the reading ability because of lacking for background knowledge.It states the influence of background knowledge on reading comprehension and the effective ways to strengthen the background knowledge and to improve the reading result.
