Breathing New Life into an Iconic Brand: The Case of Chinas Fu Yuan Guan Bakery
Fu Yuan Guan Bakery, a time-honored Chinese brand, illustrates the management and development problems faced by traditional, established firms as they attempt to modernize, especially when you are acquired and managed by family businesses. The firm rejuvenated itself through restructuring and privatization and successfully gained market share. However its family-management restricted its further expansion. Although the firm failed to recruit professional managers, it continued strive to make further improvements. This case reflects the day-to-day behavior and attempts of the family managers to identify potential problems and recommend appropriate courses of action.
