A Proposed Model of the Determinants of the Readiness for Change in Small Professional Sub-organizations
The objectives of the present study is to propose a model of the determinants of the readiness for change (RFC) in small professional suborganizations. The major determinants explored are: 1) The resources available for change. 2) The leaders orientation. 3) The qualifications of employees. 4) The quality of supporting systems including the Management Information System and the organizations structure. The dependent variable is the sub-organization readiness for change. The data were collected from 21 semi-independent sub-organizational affiliated with Kuwaiti organizations, through a questionnaire. The number of subjects is one hundred thirty five. They were selected based on their knowledge of the organization unit developmental plans and history. The findings are supportive to an alternative but similar model. The empirical model included four factors namely; visionary leadership and competency of planning, the quality of planning supporting systems, the availability of resources, and motivation and top management involvement. Each of the previously identified factors/determinants helped explain the sub-organizations level of readiness for change. More further, the model was validated by exploring the explanatory power measured by the variance explained of the differences in readiness for change scores among the study sampled sub-organizations attributed to the four factors/determinants identified above. The implications, limitations and directions of future studies are discussed.
