Design and manufacturing of the individualized auricle based on reverse engineering

(Objective)To introduce reverse engineering to the biological manufacturing field and obtain threedimensional digital data and polyurethane elastic auricle cartilage scaffold of patients with congenital microtia ear via applying reverse engineering and rapid prototyping technique. (Methods)Build three-dimensional models after denoising, segmenting, smoothing CT scanned images of 281 layers by mimics software, with interlamellar spacing of 1.25mm. Obtain the final three-dimensional models via Copy CAD software and the reality form of individualized auricle scaffold. (Results) We obtain precise 3-D digital data and ideal polyurethane elastic auricle cartilage scaffold. Conclusion) This study demonstrated that precise three-dimensional digital data models could be constructed by applying RE technique, Whats more, RE technique could manufacture auricle scaffold directhy via fused deposition modeling technique. In conclusion, RE technique makes the individualized auricle scaffold is possible.
