An Evolutionary System for the Construction of the Taxonomy of Living Organisms
This paper presents an evolutionary system for construction of the taxonomy of living organisms, called SETAX. In this system, the genetic algorithm based on abstract data types (GAADT) was instantiated to find the shortest distance between the taxonomic groups investigated, through the control of the combinatorial explosion generated by the number of possible taxonomies for the set of species investigated from the data supplied, which now appear in the adaptation function of genetic algorithm. It is presented a summary of the biological basis for the taxonomy, the instantiation of GAADT to build the taxonomy of living things, the architecture of the developed system and an example of taxonomy with the proposed system.
