Using Kinect to Create Active-Learning Situations for Nanotechnology Labs/Classrooms

The Kinect SDK launched by Microsoft will detonate Innovative applications of motion-sensing techniques in the field of education;therefore, the methods of this paper departing from analyzing both the features of Kir.tct and the ideas behind TEAL classrooms, and fun her using Nanotechnology labs/classrooms as an example, this study aims to identify the possibility of creating active-learning situations via the incorporation of Kinect into TEAL classrooms.The study has found that the performance of such incorporation is affected by three factors, Kinects wireless transmission & miniaturization, the level of cloud computing, and the ability of learner recognition.This study has concluded that following the advancement of Kinect regarding its functions at least three active-learning models can be created for Nanotechnology labs/classrooms.They are: demonstration and operation of Nanotechnology concepts toward the entire class, Nanotechnology experiments & cooperative learning by small groups, and customized schedule of individual research projects on Nanotechnology.As far as references for future research are concerned, this study uses three interactive conditions, i.e.active learning aids, active equipment switching on, and active security alarms as an example to explain the possibility of incorporating Kinect into the design of TEAL classrooms to create Nanotechnology labs/classrooms.
