Experimenting with Reverse Engineering in an Object-Oriented Analysis & Design Course
This paper reports on an experiment research in practicing reverse engineering technique in the teaching of Object-Oriented Analysis & Design course at the Chongqing Technology and Business University (China) during the semester I, 2010. We draw lessons from the case described in 1-3 to give a reverse engineering teaching procedure to guide the students practice and for the peers reference. The aim of our study is to add empirical evidence to the current body of knowledge on reverse engineering regarding this techniques usefulness or not for improving educational outcomes and enjoyment of students. Our result indicates that the majority of the students agree that the reverse engineering teaching method is used to disclose the real software system and help them understand the knowledge of the object-oriented analysis and design, review and reinforce knowledge of programming and enable them to feel enjoyment in studying. The majority students support that the reverse engineering teaching method is applied to programming courses.
