On the Necessity of the Combination of the Grammar Method and the Communicative Approach in the Modern College English Teaching
With the development of the globalization, college English teaching plays a more and more important role in training good language learners.Neither only translation-grammar teaching method nor only communicative approach can satisfy the needs of accuracy and fluency of English learning in the modern times.This paper is to prove that with their characteristics, the grammar method is of great use to students reading and writing and that the communicative approach does good to students listening and speaking.Thus, it is necessary that teachers should adopt both of these two methods and make use of them to teach their students well.
