Fault-Tolerant Clock Synchronization Scheme with Low Power in Wireless Sensor Networks
Clock synchronization is critical for many sensor network operations including collaborative sensing, sensor scheduling and data fusion. Currently, large number of time synchronization schemes have been proposed for the sensor network under the assumption that sensors work in a benign environments. These techniques cannot survive malicious attacks in hostile environments. Faulttolerant clock synchronization techniques are potential candidates to address this problem. However, existing algorithms are all resource consuming and suffer from message collisions in most of cases. In this paper, we propose a novel faulttolerant clock synchronization scheme with low power which consists of two phases: first, we propose a fault detection mechanism based on the spatiotemporal correlation which can detect the abnormal synchronization beacon imme- diateh without introducing any extra communication overhead; then, we also propose an exception locating scheme based on the security agent inserted in each sensor and we can perform different action according to the detection results. We implement the proposed scheme in real sensor nodes, and the experiment results show that our scheme can achieve high synchronization accuracy and is resilient to various attacks.
