Design and Implementation of a WSN based Remote Monitoring System for Street Lighting
Most traditional street lighting systems do not have the function of single-lamp control. According to the special application scenario of street lighting, this paper presents the design and implementation of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) based remote monitoring system for street lighting. The proposed system can implement single-lamp and all-lamp on/off control, running status information collection, flexible mode conversion using WSN based local control and GPRS based remote control technologies. A tree topology is selected as the topology of the proposed WSN. The experimental results show that it can obtain control consistency by setting two children nodes for even- street lamp node. The proposed system can save energy by 25% through the mode conversion method. The proposed system can be used in various street lighting monitoring scenarios. It also can be applied to other areas such as building lighting, home automation and environmental monitoring.
