Mobility Detection and Localization of Dislocated Sensor Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is widely used in many different scenarios. The localization information is crucial for the operation of WSNs. The anchor nodes get localized with the help of a GPS system. However, since the GPS is expensive it cannot be applied to the other static sensor nodes. After the initial deployment of the WSN, the static sensor nodes are localized based on any of the localization techniques proposed so far. Since the WSN is used in diverse applications it may so happen that the static sensors may change their positions due to environmental factors and the previously localized information will be erroneous for further usage. In this paper an efficient technique to detect the mobility of moved sensor nodes is proposed. The detection is achieved through the constant monitoring of the radio signal strengths at each sensor nodes and the simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme efficiently detects the mobility of the dislocated nodes. Once the nodes are detected for mobility, they localize again by any of the existing localization techniques.
