A Flexible Viterbi Decoder for Wireless Communication
Modern wireless communication standard varies a lot from each other and is evolving rapidly. Flexibility becomes the dominate consideration during software defined radio (SDR) system design. Convolutional code is widely adopted in recent wireless protocols. In order to support multistandard service, we designed a flexible Viterbi decoder which is compatible with standard WiMAX, UMB and LTEs channel coding scheme. Architecture of cascaded Add-Compare-Select Unit and sliding window traceback method is presented. FPGA prototype shows our design is highly flexible while maintaining a high throughput with low area cost
