Research on Security Hardening of SIP
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an IETF-defined signaling protocol, widely used for controlling multimedia communication sessions. SIP is widely used for creating, modifying and terminating two-party (unicast) or multiparty (multicast) sessions consisting of one or several media streams. Yet there are a lot of security attacks for SIP over IP and current security hardening mechanisms have been proven for vulnerabilities. Regarding this problem, the security methods can be employed in SIP are introduced in detail, the weaknesses of them are described, and the improved version of SIP is summarized, which can partially improve the current defects.
