Application and Principle of Error Corrected Encoding Technology
FEC (Forward Error Correction), which was first introduced as Hamming code in 1950, plays an important part in modern communication system. It involves encoding data before transmission as well as decoding and correcting received data with specific arithmetic. Owing to its automatic error correction, the receivers dont have to request senders to retransmit the data even if there is something wrong. Obviously, this character means real-time ability in system, so its widely used in modern techniques. This paper mainly explains the principles and working mechanism of FECs, discusses and contrasts several FEC codes, and shows the application of FEC in the Internet and wireless communication.
