Quest for Cultural Identity——On the thematic study of the Invisible Man
With the publication of Invisible Man in 1952, Ralph Ellison moved into the front ranks of American writers. As a seminal document in African American literature, the strength of Invisible Man lies in its non-racial and universal question that Ellison puts forward for readers: how to achieve an identity in an alienated hostile society? The narrative and thematic concerns of the novel revolve around the quest of the protagonist for identity. Basted on the textural analysis, the paper reinterprets the themes of Invisible Man from a perspective of the cultural identity.
