Properties of Micro-arc Oxidized Coating on Biomedical Titanium Alloys
Ceramic coatings were fabricated on TC4 alloy by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) method in silicate solution. The microstructure, phase and composition were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The tribological properties of the coatings against GCrl5 steel were investigated on ball-on-disc friction and wear tester. The friction coefficient,as low as 0.16~ 0.30,is much lower than that of the TC4 alloy against the same steel counterpart, and better wear resistant. Besides, polarization curve test in 3. 5% NaCl solution shows that the coating has better corrosion resistance. The cytotoxicity evaluation shows that MAO coating has no significant cytotoxieity and is an ideal biomedical material by MTT assay.
