Subtransus Deformation Behavior of a Titanium Alloy with Lamellar Structure

The subtransus deformation behavior of TC11 alloy is analyzed based on deformation mechanisms. Isothermal compression tests are applied a temperature range of 890-995℃ and a strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1. The flow stress curves show that the flow stress increases with decreasing temperature and increasing strain rate; with increasing strain, the flow stress shows characteristic including quick hardening and moderate softening. The flow softening can be related to reduction of Hall-Petch strengthening effects due to transfer from the hard slip mode to the soft one. Finally a new constitutive equation was established for large strain subtransius deformation of TC11 alloy by combining the Estrin and Mecking hardening model and an empirical flow softening model.
