Study on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of BT25 Titanium Alloy Bars

BT25 is a martensite type α+β titanium alloy with prior mechanical properties either at room or high temperatures. It has already been widely used in Russian aviation industry. This article studies the microstructures and properties of two kinds of BT25 titanium alloy samples formed by β-area forging and α-β area hot rolling, correspondingly □90mm forging and Φ20mrn bar. The microstructures observation shows both samples are composed of equiaxed a phase and transformed β structure, except that the grain size of Φ20mm bar is much smaller than that of □ 90mm forging, including the refinement of equiaxed primary α and lamellar secondary α. Moreover,Φ20mm alloy bar appears superior room temperature and high temperature(450℃ ,500℃ and 550℃)tensile properties. However, creep and persistent properties of □90mm forging are better when the temperature increases to 550℃.
