Investigation of Sheet-Titanium Drawability

Sheet-metal forming processes are an indispensable element of modern industry as they allow for production both small metal fancy goods and big aircraft structures. In this way,it is possible to obtain near net shape elements, which do not need further machining. The demand for light and noncorrodible constructions involves the increase in application of light materials like titanium and its alloys. However, application of titanium, especially titanium alloys for the drawn-parts entails solving new technological problems, which do not find a proper reflection in professional literature. In the paper some aspects of sheet-titanium forming will be discussed. Forming of sheet-titanium is more difficult than drawing sheets made of steel or even aluminium. It results from low press-formability, high susceptibility to galling and significant spring-back of titanium. In the paper the test results of mechanical (Re-yield point,Rm-tensile strength,A-elongation,r-value etc. )and technological properties (μ-friction coefficient, LDR-limiting drawing ratio)of the chosen types of titanium sheets(commercially pure titanium:Grade 2,Grade 4 and titanium alloys: Ti-6Al-4V(Grade 5),Ti-15V-3Al-3Cr-3Sn)will be given.
