The Effect of Hot Top Process on Large Diameter Ti6A14V Top Composition

Ti6Al4V alloy is widely used in aerospace,but the change of its thermal equilibrium condition at the end of melting,reduction of cooling capacity and solidification rate lead to he segregation of the main composition,especially Al. Under the industrial producing condition,according to the solidification and segregation theory, this paper studied the distribution rule of main composition especially Al in the top of Φ720mm Ti6A14V-in-got.and improved the hot top Process. The results showed that the homogeneity of Ti6Al4Vingot top composition could be improved by controlling the coil current size,cycle and low current time in the hot top Process.
