Cause Analysis of Fracture for TBS Slab
Chemical composition,fracture feature and microstructure of TB5 slab were investigated. The results indicated that chemical composition of slab was uniform and met the relevant specification requirements. The fracture feature of slab was cleavage or quasi-cleavage appearance. SEM observation showed precipitated phases in the fracture and no inclusions. The microstructure of slab was bulky equiaxed grains,and there were long needle-like precipitation phases which had uniform distribution. The analysis implied that the slab fracture had no relation to chemical composition but was strongly related to bulky grains and coarse precipitation phases existing in grains, which cut the β-matrix apart and impeded dislocation motion, therefore greatly deteriorated plasticity of TB5 slab.
