The Microstructures of TiNbTaZr Alloy Treated by Direct Rolling; and Cross Rolling

The microstructures of Ti-35Nb-2Ta-3Zr beta titanium alloy, which was fabricated by vacuum consumable arc melting furnace followed by hot pressing, subjected to direct-rolling and cross-rolling were investigated in this study. The characterization of deformed specimens with the reduction ratio from 60% to 99% was discussed. The results showed that stress-induced martensite phase transformation appeared in both direct-rolling and cross-rolling specimens. During direct rolling, when the reduction ratio was over 60%,obvious anisotropy of microstructure was obtained and dislocations moving accompanied with the slipping of shear bands contributed most to plastic deformation. During cross rolling, anisotropy of microstructure along different directions decreased and nanometers-sized grains were obtained as the alloy was cross rolled at a reduction ratio of 99%,which showed that crossing rolling played an important role in refining grain and decreasing anisotropy of microstructure.
