The Effects of Recrystallization Texture Evolution on Youngs Modulus of Metastable β Titanium Alloy

Texture evolution of TiNbZrFe metastable β titanium alloy under the conditions of cold rolling and annealing at 550℃~900℃ was studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) technique in order to clarify the effects of crystal orientation on the apparent elastic modulus of biomedical titanium alloy. Youngs modulus was measured by static tensile test. The results indicate that strong <110> texture was produced under 90% rolling reduction. Recrystallization nuclei were formed without preferred orientation when annealed at 550℃~600℃. But the growth of recrystallized grains with preferred orientation resulted in strong <112> texture when annealing temperature increased to 700~ 900℃. Youngs modulus thereby decreased significantly due to the formation of <112> recrystallization texture, about 30% reduction under 900℃ annealing condition as compared with solution treatment condition,as low as 41GPa.
