Effect of Interstitial Impurities on Microstructure and Martensitic Transformation Behavior of Ti-23at. % Nb Alloy
Interstitial impurities affect the martensitic transformation behavior and superelasticity of β-Ti alloys. In this study, the effect of nitrogen (N) on the martensitic transformation and superelastic behavior of Ti-23at. %Nb alloy was investigated. The addition of 1 at. % N suppressed the martensitic transformation and decreased the martensitic transformation temperatures. The Ti-23Nb-1N alloy exhibited the superelasticity at room temperature with a large recovery strain of 3. 5% which is due to a high critical stress for slip deformation of 800 MPa.
