Study on the Crystal Structure of α Martensite in a Ti-4Al-4.5Mo Titanium Alloy

An investigation has been made on the crystal structure of a attained in a Ti-4Al-4. 5Mo titanium alloy quenched from the α+β field. The disordered a martensite was observed in the alloy quenched from 910℃, while the ordered a martensite was found in the alloy quenched from 8701 and 840℃. The ordering in the crystal structure of α marensite may be related to CSRO in the high temperature β phase. For a better fit of Mo content than the structures reported in literature,a new ordered C-centered orthorhombic crystal structure with Cmcm space group was proposed for the αmartensite.
