Preparation and Microstructure of Porous Ti/IrO2 Electrodes
Porous titanium sheet with approximate 30% porosity was prepared by powder rolling and vacuum sintering process. After etched in ethane diac-id at 100℃ for 30 min,the as-prepared porous titanium sheet was used as the matrix of electrode. In this paper, porous Ti/IrO2-Ta2O5 electrodes with different content of IrO2 were prepared by thermolytic decomposition method for sulfate electrolysis. The structure and morphologies of the oxide films were determined by XRD, FESEM and TEM, respectively. The results showed that about 20 nm in diameter and 50nm in length IrO2 striations homogeneously grew on the surface of porous titanium. However, there was almost no orientation index relationship between the nano IrO2 and titanium sheet in high resolution TEM For the formation of lots of nano striations, the specific areas of the electrode might increase as the increase of the IrO2 contents. Compared with the traditional dense titanium anode, the main mechanism of the growth of nanometer wires may be owing to the surface effects of the porous titanium substrate.
