Thermal Oxidized Layer Breakdown Effect on SCC Behavior in An α Titanium Alloy

In this study, thermal oxidation in temperatures 600℃ and 800t applied on Ti-4AI-2V samples to make a thin surface oxide layer. Then stress corrosion cracking behavior of this a titanium alloy in chloride environment was examined by Slow Strain Rate Technique (SSRT) method. This alloy shows good resistance to SCC in normal situation and it s completely keep its mechanical properties in different chloride solvent concentrations. The aim target is find safe temperature heat treatment to avoid making sensibility to SCC. The research followed up by fractography and surface microcracks monitoring. Then SCC mechanisms in Titanium alloys was investigated in chloride environments and results found compatible with Stress Corrosion cracks growth which observed in thicker oxide layer sample which was prepared in higher temperature.
