Effect of Two Heat Treatments on Thermal Stability and Creep Property of a Highly β Stabilized Titanium Alloy

Two typical heat treatments (HT) were obtained on the bases of previous researches of Ti40 alloy: 1# ,600℃/4h AC;2# .850℃/lh WQ+ 550℃/6h AC. The microstructures and mechanical properties under roomtemperature, thermal exposure and creep exposure conditions were tested for the alloy after two heat treatments. The results indicate that the different microstructures are produced after 1 # and 2 # HT for 1 # HT microstructure showing bending grain boundaries and 2 # HT microstructure showing straight grain boundaries. The mechanical properties indicate that the difference of microstructure has little effect on mechanical properties under roomtemperature condition. Relatively, the micro-structure with bending grain boundaries after 1 # HT shows better thermal stability, which is mainly due to the relative small quantity precipitation along bending grain boundaries. For creep performance, the alloy after 1 # HT shows better creep resistance at lower temperature level and the alloy after 2# HT shows better creep resistance at higher temperature level, which is mainly resulting from the change of creep mechanism with increasing creep temperature.
