The Effect of Different Solution Treatment on Ti50Ni24.9Cu25Y0.1 Alloy

The effect of different cooling methods on the morphology, precipitation, and phase transformation process was analyzed by Optical Microscope and X-ray diffraction for Ti50Ni24.9Cu25 Y0.1 alloy solution treated at 900℃ for 9h. The regularity of element distribution of alloy was measured by Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS). The internal friction of Ti50Ni24.9Cu25Y0.1 alloy was measured by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Obvious microsegregation can be found during the process of solidification. The element nickle riched in the center of the crystal grain, and element copper riched at the boundary. There are pure titanium phase existed both in crystal grains and at boundaries, which was faceted crystal growthy. The microsegregation can be effectively improved for the alloy solution treated at 900°C for 9h. The XRD analysis indicates that there are cubic Ti2(Ni,Cu) (Fd m) and monoclinic B19 martensite in the aswater quenched alloy, and only single B19 martensite for the alloy with air cooling and furnace cooling. High temperature XRD curve indicate that there is only one step B2-B19 martensitic transformation. The DMA analysis shows that the as-water quenched alloy have the best internal friction and the highest starting temperature of martensitic phase transformation.
