Quantitative Study on Relationships between Mechanical Properties and Characteristics of Primary α Phase for a Solution-treated Near-β Titanium Alloy

Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-lCr-lFe near-β titanium alloy was solutiontreated at α+β and β phase fields and the room-temperature Brinell hardness and tensile strength were tested. It was found that the solutionized alloy exhibited uniform equiaxed primary α phase distributing on the β matrix mi-crostructure or equiaxed β microstructure. As the temperature increasing, the volume fraction of primary α phase decreased linearly, and the Brinell hardness and tensile strength decreased nonlinearly. The quantitative relationships between the mechanical properties and characteristics of α phase were established. Based on the actual nonlinear regression analysis and the ideal rule of mixture,the influence of compositions of single α and β phases on the mechanical properties of the alloy was discussed.
