Deformation Behaviour of Surface Treated Two-phase Titanium Alloy in Bending
In the paper the model of surface treated titanium alloy was worked out to be used in two dimensional finite element analysis of four point bending test. Different strength properties were assigned to hard compound layer, diffusion strengthened layer and the substrate. Serrated character of the interface between compound and diffusion layers was also modelled. Numerically determined load-deflection curves were compared with experimental data obtained for specimens after glow discharge assisted surface treatment. The influence of surface layer morphology and properties on the local stress distribution was analyzed. The models developed allow to estimate the effect of individual microstructure constituents on the deformation behaviour of two-phase titanium alloy.
