Effects of Cold-rolling Reduction and Annealing Condition on Plane Anisotropy of Mechanical Properties of α+β Type Titanium Alloy Sheets

Effects of cold-rolling reduction and annealing condition on plane anisotropy in uni-directionally cold-rolled Ti-lFe-0. 350 and TV3A1-2. 5V sheets were investigated by evaluating hardness in both longitudinal and transverse sections and formation mechanisms for the anisotropy were discussed in view of texture. Plane anisotropy of hardness was high in the sheets cold-rolled at low reduction of 20 % even after annealing at 800t for 4h, where the 0001 direction of the elongated a grains was distributed mainly toward the transverse direction of the sheets and the strong transverse texture in the initial hot-rolled sheet was maintained. In contrast,plane anisotropy was low in the sheets cold-rolled at high reduction of 50 and 70% and subsequently annealed at 800癈 for a certain period of time, in which the 0001 direction of the recrystallized a grains was converted to the direction close to the normal of the sheet surface. The transition of the texture during annealing after cold-rolling at high reduction is considered to be caused by the following mechanism: Some grains whose orientation was close to the normal of the sheet surface kept their orientation unchanged during cold-rolling without heavily deformed,and they acted as the nucleation sites of recrystallization during annealing. It was in fact confirmed that there were some grains not heavily deformed and had a low dislocation density after cold-rolling.
