Influence of Microstructure on Tensile properties of β-metastable Ti 17 Alloy

Mechanical properties were characterized for specimens submitted to several controlled thermal treatments. Lamellar microstructures formed during a direct cooling at different temperatures were tested,as well as bi-lamellar microstructures obtained after a multi step heat treatment (direct cooling followed by solution treatment in the alpha/beta range, cooling and further ageing). The tensile properties (yield stress, ultimate tensile stress and deformation at failure) have been characterized at room temperature. Results are analyzed in regard of the amount of alpha phase formed and of the morphology of the phases.
