Interfacial Reaction and Microstructure Evolution of the Matrix in Mo-coated SiC Fiber Reinforced Ti6A14V Composite

Ti6Al4V matrix composites reinforced by Chinese SiC fibers with Mo coating as interfacial modification coating was prepared and thermally exposed at 900℃ for up to 100 h. Microstructure of the interface and the matrix in the composite was investigated with the help of scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and transaction electron microscopy. The results show that the interfacial reactions and elemental diffusion occur between the columnar Mo coating and Ti6Al4V matrix for the asprepared samples, resulting in β-Ti,lα(Ti) and 2α(Ti) from the Mo coating to the Ti6Al4V, respectively. However, reaction products Ti5Si3 and TiC would be formed in the interfacial region of the samples after thermally exposure. Furthermore, the interfacial formation mechanism was discussed.
