Study on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Gr5-SS304 Clad Plate Manufactured by Explosive Welding
This paper studies clad plates of titanium alloy Gr5 and stainless steel 304 clad by explosive welding technique. Microstructures,microhardness, tensileshearing and bending properties of the clad metals are evaluated. The bonding interfaces of the clad metals show a wavy morphology. The microhardness of both the base and the cladding metals near the bonding interface increases, while a general decrease on either the base or the cladding metals away from the bonding interfaces. Tensile shearing and bending properties meet the requirements of ASTM B898-2005. Therefore, the mechanical properties of the clad plates meet the application requirements in the engineering field.
