Single Press and Sinter of ITP Process Ti6Al4V Powder
Single press-single sinter powder metallurgy (PM) technique using ITP prealloyed powder is employed to fabricate Ti6Al4V parts. Compaction and sintering parameters were studied to find the optimum process parameters to produce high mechanical performance parts. A combination of high compaction pressure (50 TSI) and 60 minute sintering hold time is sufficient to obtain a good combination of strength and ductility. The 125℃ sintered temperature is better for properties compared with higher (1371℃) and lower temperatures. Powder metallurgy Ti6Al4V parts with good mechanical properties can be obtained by cost-effective press and sinter processing of ITP powder.
