The Use of Titanium and Titanium Alloy Powder Compact Forging to Produce Near-Net Shaped Rocker Arms and The Influence of Processing Conditions
As a rapid powder consolidation method, powder compact forging has been utilized to manufacture Ti and Ti-6Al-4V (wt%) near-net shaped rocker arms in this work. Warm die compaction by unilateral pressing was used to manufacture the green powder compacts with high density, and the influences of processing parameters such as temperature and pressure on powder compaction was investigated. It was found that the shear stress played an important role in controlling the quality of the green powder compact, and this explained the influence of powder shape on warm compaction. The mechanism of powder consolidation by powder compact forging and the influence of several factors, such as the density of powder compact and powder compact holding time at forging temperature on the quality of the forged parts were studied by examining their mechanical properties and microstructure.
