Development of Low-cost and High-strength Titanium Alloy by Powder Metallurgical Process
Pressurized sintering of copper containing prealloyed powder has been investigated in order to realize low-cost and high-strength titanium alloy. Dense titanium alloy has been obtained without segregation of copper by hot extrusion process. Maximum copper content without segregation of copper by this process seems to be around 10 mass%. It has been also shown that copper addition in titanium alloy drastically increases its hardness at room temperature and compressive strength at elevated temperatures. Toho Titanium and Sanyo Special steel will investigate this alloy system to reveal its potential for many applications.
