Full-density Titanium Materials Fabricated by High Velocity Compaction Technology
High velocity compaction (HVC) is a promising technology for preparing high dense powder metallurgy parts with high efficiency. Apart from forming high dense materials which are made of soft powders, such as Fe, Al and Cu,it especially provides a competitive forming method for powders with high workhardening rate or brittleness, such as Ti,Mo and W. In this paper, pure hydrogen/dehydrogen titanium powder was compacted by HYP35-7 high velocity compaction machine, and followed by vacuum sintering. After single impact with impact energy of 1.217 kJ and the corresponding velocity of 4. 25 m·s-1,the relative density of green compacts reached 97. 2%,and a density of 99. 6% was obtained after vacuum sintering at 1250℃ for 1. 5h. The results show that full-density titanium materials could be prepared by a simple process consisted of HVC and vacuum sintering.
