Characterization of TiNi Gas-atomized Powders and Thermally Sprayed Coating
TiNi gas-atomized powders and TiNi coating fabricated by low temperature high velocity oxygen fuel (LTHVOF) spraying were characterized. The results showed that the Ni-rich Ti-51.25at. %Ni powders were obtained by gas atomization. The particle size of most TiNi powders ranges from 16. 58 to 68. 86 μm, with a median size of 39. 87 μm in diameter. The differential distribution curve of powder size shows a unimodal shape and it fits well with the normal distribution. Most of the TiNi powders are spherical or nearly spherical in morphology and present a dendrite/ cellular mixed microstructure. The TiNi powders consist of the dominant TiNi B2 austenite phase and minor Ti2Ni or Ti4Ni2O,and Ti3Ni4 phases. The coating fabricated by LT-HVOF spraying, using TiNi gas-atomized powder as the raw material, shows high density and good adherence. The phase composition of the coating is mainly TiNi B2 austenite, though there are tiny amounts of Ni and Ti2O3 phases.
