Surface Modification of Low-Modulus Ti35NbXZr Alloys with Nanotube Arrays
Mainly due to its great potential in both orthopedic and dental applications, low modulus Ti alloy has aroused great interests in recent year. In the present work, we report our progress in the anodic growth of nanotube arrays on the biocompatible, lowmodulus Ti35NbXZr alloys which are free of toxic elements. The effect of Zr content on the microstructures, thermal stability and wetting behavior of the nanotube arrays were examined. Anodization parameters especially the anodization voltage were found to play an important role in affecting the formation of the oxide nanotubes. Biological properties especially the interaction of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells with oxide nanotubes were investigated.
