Risk Panic over Electromagnetic Fields:The Roles of Risk Characteristics and Personality
This study primarily aims to explore the effects of risk characteristics and personality on risk panic over electromagnetic fields induced by the construction of highvoltage substations. The stepwise regression analysis of responses from 200 citizens indicates that both SelfEsteem and apprehension (a risk characteristic) have significant effects on all three aspects of this type of risk panic. Moreover, internal locus of control moderates the effect of apprehension on state anxiety, and negativism moderates the effects of apprehension on both harmonious and inharmonious coping behaviors. On the basis of these results, discussion and suggestions on risk management are provided.
