Factors Affecting Biogas Technology Adoption Behavior of Pig-raising Households: A Case Study in Hunan Province, China
This paper discusses the factors affecting livestock farmers’ adoption of the biogas technology, using the Tobit model based on the pigraising household survey in Hunan province. The results show that, biogas technology adoption behavior is negatively correlated with variables as householder’s gender and livestock price in the same year, showing that female householders are more interested in biogas technology, and a higher pig price will drive the adopters to expand farm scale but save biodigester costs; while the adoption behavior is positively correlated with variables as accesses to information, availability of offfarm income, householder’s attitude toward risks, farm scale in the same year, householders’ knowledge about animal waste and animal health, reception of governmental subsidy, aquaculture area, and actual amount of payment received.
