Characterization the NOM and its fractions with respect to their treatability
By using the reverse osmosis technology, Natural organic matter (NOM) was concentrated from Songhua River. The fractions of NOM (Hydrophobic fractionHyO, Hydrophilic fractionHyI, Humic acidHA, Fulvic acidFA) were fractionated with XAD resin. A commercial humic acid was further selected for comparison. The characteristics modification of CHA, NOM and its fractions after ozonation (1mg/L O3), coagulation (30mg/L Al2(SO4)318H2O) and adsorption (Al2O3 1.0gL1) were also investigated. The results revealed that the treatability with coagulation and adsorption was greater for the more aromatic CHA and the hydrophobic compounds (HA, HyO, FA) of NOM, from which the most aromatic organic carbon was removed. Except for the CHA, NOM and its fractions cannot be mineralized with 1mg/L O3. With the removal of aromatic and large molecular weight fraction by coagulation and adsorption, the remained components of NOM and its fractions still had a complex structure and showed unfeatured UV spectra. The difficulties to disposal make the HyI a nonnegligible quantity in water treatment process.
