The Numerical Simulation of Salinity Distribution in Liaohe River Estuary
The tide and salinity distributions in Liaohe River estuary are simulated using the finitevolume coastal ocean model (FVCOM). The results of the simulation show that the salinity gradient of Sandaokou reaches its highest between 2km upstream and 2km downstream, with its maximum salinity ranging between 16 to 26psu during the high tide and 10 to 16psu during the low tide. The salinity in the bottom of the estuary is higher than the surface during the high tide, while during the low tide the vertical difference between the surface and bottom is not significant. The salinity around Sandaogou during the high tide under the condition of runoff is 21 to 22psu in May, 18 to 19psu in July and 15 to 16psu in August. The result of this paper could provide a reference to the comprehensive utilization of fresh water resource in Liaohe River estuary.
