Science-based Support for Sustainable Use of Water Resources in China
1 Background and concept of sustainable water resources development Water is both a fundamental natural resource and a strategic economic resource. As a fundamental natural resource, water is the important carrier and essence of many resources, i. e. , water power, aquatic life and tourism and is the guarantee of many resources, i. e. , land and minerals. As a strategic economic resource, water is an irreplaceable foundation for socio-economic development, the lifeline of agriculture and industry and also the important embodiment of comprehensive national strength.
